The Selma Area Food Bank was opened in October of 1993 with the hard work of a task force against hunger and the cooperation of the Montgomery Area Food Bank. The food bank is located in Selma, AL What began as only a handful of agencies in the Selma area has grown to serve over 77 nonprofit agencies and churches in a four county service area of Dallas, Perry, Wilcox and Marengo Counties. The Selma Area Food Bank not only offers its regular  Food Box Distribution Program, but also distribute 317 Brown Bags per month for elderly citizens. In 2006, we distributed more than 1,247,000 pounds of food to needy families in our four county service area.
